Lugene Cole

Dance Instructor/
Choreographer


Lugene has taught dance with the
Amarillo Little Theatre for the past
17 years and had previously held the
position of Dance Coordinator for the Amarillo College Dance Department
from 1993-2009. Lugene began formal dance instruction at the age
of six and began working as an understudy dance instructor at the age of thirteen. In 2002, she received the Amarillo Globe-News Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Dance Instructor.” Her dance competition teams have placed 2nd at Tremaine National Dance Competition in 2000 and 2004 and in January 2007, her team placed 1st and 2nd for Lyrical and Jazz open. She served as Choreographer for the Civic Amarillo Summer Youth productions of West Side Story, Beauty and the Beast, Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie and Big River. She has performed in productions at the Amarillo LittleTheatre including Amarillo Little Theatre Follies, Li’l Abner, Carousel, The King and I, and Scrooge; as well as Amarillo College’s A Chorus Line. She also worked with the Globe-News Center’s gala production of Odyssey.

She has studied with the Cecchetti Council of America and Dance Masters and has studied and trained with a number of Master Instructors including Al Gilbert, Frank Hatchett, Gelsey Kirkland, Nakita Talin, Twyla Tharp, Joe Tremaine, teacher specialist Pirko Siren Lawlor and Mia Michaels from the television show “So You Think You Can Dance.” Lugene’s background in dance and exercise includes Aerobics, Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical/Contemporary, Tap, Polynesian and Exercise Physiology. She is also recognized through AISD in affiliation with the Amarillo Little Theatre to offer P.E. credit for qualifying students through the school system. Many of her formal students have continued their careers with the Boston Ballet, Dallas Ballet, El Paso Ballet, Royal Winnipeg Ballet along with others performing or teaching professionally.

She wishes to thank Amarillo Little Theatre and the talented staff and instructors for such a wonderful professional teaching venue for students to learn “the magic of dance and theatre.”
